Cambridge (MA) Poet Populist Peter Payack Is Seeking Former Cambridge Residents From Around The World To Contribute To The Cambridge Community Poem
Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) May 14, 2009 -- The First Poet Populist of Cambridge Massachusetts is attempting to do bring poetry to people in new and innovative ways. First he put poems in fortune cookies and distributed them through the oldest poetry bookstore in the country, the Grolier Poetry Book Shop. Under the title, Poet Populist Peter Payack's Poetry Cookies, these 10-poem collections of famous Cambridge Poets sold out its first baking at $8.00 each. It is now in its third "baking."
Then, Payack went to the Third Grade Class at the Kennedy/Longfellow School, and after holding a poetry workshop, actually made the poems into Poetry Buttons for the kids to wear home. This turned into a media circus as the national PBS show "Arthur" filmed this and will be showing it in a upcoming episode this fall.
Next Payack, who himself has 6 published books and whose work has been in such notable publications as The New York Times, The Paris Review and Rolling Stone also organized the Cambridge Poetry Quest and Scavenger Hunt, which asked Cantabrigians to discover interesting places of Cambridge poetry history, such as the home of Robert Frost for the last 20 years of his life, or the burial place of Amy Lowell.
Now Payack is asking former Cantabrigians around the world to join the hundreds of people who have already contributed to "The Cambridge Community Poem." Payack is looking for poetry couplets and short poems by the people of Cambridge. Payack says, "I am trying to capture the pulse of Cambridge." Payack is looking for uplifting themes of city life, community spirit, the past, present, and future of Cambridge. Anyone with a connection to Cambridge is encouraged to submit. Contributors already include the former US Poet Laureate, octogenarians, third graders, college presidents & professors, city workers, Pulitzer Prize winners, elected officials, teachers, police officers, townies and gownies.
Payack will arrange the couplets into "The Cambridge Community Poem" which will be presented at June 13th Cambridge River Festival as a gift to the people of Cambridge from the people of Cambridge. It will be available in book form and online.
Payack is also looking for black and white visuals, and a title for the community poem. The deadline is June 1.
Please send Contributions to Peter Payack at CambridgePoetPopulist1<at>gmail.com.
